Perhaps the most important storyline for Liberty’s success this year is who will step up at wide receiver? Following the departures of the Flames top 3 wide receivers from 2012 (Pat Kelly, Ryan Ferguson, and Elliott Dutra), Liberty is desperate for multiple receiving threats to emerge in the Fall.
Darrin Peterson looks to emerge as a go-to receiver this season |
The most likely candidate is Darrin Peterson. The sophomore from Alabama showed flashes of brilliance during his true freshman campaign in 2012 hauling in 4 catches for 60 yards including a 41 yard touchdown reception. Other receivers who are most likely to step up include former quarterback Gabe Henderson and redshirt-freshman Dante Shells.
Returning wide receivers had a combined 16 receptions for 184 yards and 1 touchdown in 2012. Another way to put it – running back Sirchauncey Holloway had basically the same production (17 receptions, 123 yards, 1 touchdown) by himself in 2012 as all of the returning receivers had.
