Liberty held its 4th practice of the 2016 spring season on Tuesday afternoon, and afterwards we had a chance to talk with Coach Gill and Offensive Coordinator Joe Dailey on how spring practice is going thus far.
Coach Gill made special mention of JUCO transfer Solomon McGinty as one guy that has stood out so far. McGinty enrolled at Liberty for this semester and is listed as starter at the Spur safety position. Gill also stated he likes the look of the secondary and how the defense has been “flying around.” Gill also mentioned the defensive line is looking good with a lot of young guys getting lots of snaps. He singled out Tolen Avery who is filling in as a starter at one defensive end for Erwin Dessources who is injured.
I like the way they are flying around on defense.
On offense, Gill continued to refer to the team needing more consistency, both from the offense as a whole and at the quarterback position. Gill and Dailey each mentioned how much Stephon Masha has improved throwing the football. Quarterback Bo Swanson has made significant improvement from the fall. “It’s really exciting to see him make that transition from where he was to where he is,” Coach Dailey said of Swanson.
