Georgia Southern finished second in the East Division of the Sun Belt conference this season and had 10 players get Sun Belt all-conference recognition. They had two players on the 1st team, two on the 2nd team, and two players on the 3rd team. They also had four players receive an honorable mention.
Here are four important players the Flames need to keep an eye on when Liberty and the Eagles meet in the Cure Bowl on December 21st.
Kindle Vildor
Vildor is a Senior DB and has been a first team all-Sun Belt selection 2 consecutive years. In 2018, he was the Sun Belt Player of the Year by Pro Football Focus. He is the Eagles best defensive player. He will be guarding AGG most of the game and no one has stopped AGG this year. Vildor will probably give AGG more of challenge than any other DB this year. Do not be surprised to see Monquavion Brinson, who is also a Senior DB matchup on AGG some. Brinson was second team all conference.
Raymond Johnson III
Johnson is a 6’3, 260 lbs, Junior, defensive end. He was the other first team all-conference selection. He finished the season with 30 tackles and 3 sacks. He will try to help the Eagles control the line and put pressure on Buckshot. That coupled with the elite DB’s could cause issues for the Flames.
Shai Werts
The 5’11”, 205 pound quarterback completed 52.78% of his passes for 704 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. He was also third on the team in rushing with 67.6 yards per game and 5 rushing touchdowns. The redshirt-junior is from Clinton, South Carolina and leads the option attack for the Eagles.
Tyler Bass
Tyler Bass is the kicker for the Eagles. I expect the game to be close and kicking could be the difference. Bass was selected second team all-conference and is a solid kicker. He is a perfect 35/35 on extra points for the year and has hit 17/25 off his field goals with his longest make on the year coming from 49 yards. He is pretty much automatic from under 40 yards. Including his extra points he is 44/46 from under 40 yards.
