While your Liberty University men’s basketball team struggles through its 2012-13 season, LU’s women’s basketball team is 18-6 and 10-2 in the conference. They drew less than 400 people in attendance at a recent home conference matchup, that’s pitiful. Here are a few reasons why you should go watch your Liberty Lady Flames basketball team…
1. Tradition
Yes, the men are having a tough year, but there is a Liberty basketball team that will end up with 20 wins this season. Again. For the 6th consecutive season. And the 16th season out of the last 17 years. The one season they didn’t get to 20? They finished with 19.
2. The Women’s team is arguably the most storied program on Liberty Mountain
A Sweet 16 appearance just a few years ago, 3 alumni who have made WNBA rosters, I’ve lost count how many conference championships….
3. Devon Brown
Brown will go down as one of the all-time greats. She is currently ranked in the top 5 in scoring and top 10 in rebounding in Flames history. Brown only has a few games left in her career. Get out and watch her while you can.
4. Carey Green
Coach Green has been Liberty’s head coach for 14 years now! He is 327-109 in his career and 215-23 in Big South Conference games! He has 11 Big South Tournament Championships, Regular Seasons Championships, and NCAA appearances. He has been the Big South Coach of the Year 5 times and the VaSID State Coach of the Year 3 times.
5. It’s YOUR School
Yes, it’s women’s basketball and many think it’s boring, but it’s YOUR school. These ladies wear the name of YOUR school on their chest. Get out and support them on their road to another conference championship!

Nothing is going to change attendance at Women’s basketball games until 1.) we get out of the BSC (ranked 30/33 in conference rpi) . 2.) we win or atleast compete against higher quality competition consistently 3.) advance in national tournament to get the attention of the student body and local community.
