1 Monmouth is 5-1 to start the season.
It’s their best start to a season since 2014 when they also started 5-1 but limped to a 6-5 finish including a 1-4 mark in Big South play. The Hawks own wins over Lafayette, Lehigh, Hampton, Bucknell, and Holy Cross. Their lone loss of the season came on September 16th at Albany.
2 The Hawks are coming off a bye week.
Monmouth will have 2 weeks to prepare for the Flames as they are coming off their bye week. When they host the Flames on Saturday at 1pm it will be in front of a Homecoming crowd.
3 Liberty’s last trip to Monmouth didn’t go so well.
The Flames were coming off a loss to Gardner-Webb and fell behind Monmouth, 14-3, midway in the 4th quarter. Liberty’s offense would go on to wake up, scoring 14 points in a span of just over 3 minutes, but a Monmouth field goal as time expired sent the game into overtime where the Hawks won, 20-17.
4 Monmouth has the top scoring offense in the Big South.
Averaging 34 points per game, the Hawks rank just ahead of Kennesaw State’s 33 and Liberty’s 32.2 points per game. They are led by quarterback Kenji Bahar who is throwing for 212 yards per game.
5 All-American DB Mike Basile leads the Big South in tackles.
After a junior season which placed him on multiple All-American lists, Mike Basile is having a stellar senior season as well. he leads the Big South with 11.5 tackles per game including 19 tackles against Holy Cross. Basile is now the Big South’s all-time leader in career solo tackles, and his 17 solo tackles against Holy Cross set a Big South single-game record.
