Joining Liberty as an Independent, UMass originally joined the FBS ranks in 2011 as a football-only member of the MAC. Reluctant to join as a full member, the MAC and UMass decided to go their separate ways in 2016.

4. Mark Whipple is in his 2nd stint as UMass’ head football coach.
He led UMass to the 1998 FCS National Championship during his first stint. In between his stints, he spent several years in the NFL as an assistant coach.
5. Andy Isabella has over 1,000 receiving yards this season.
The senior wideout is leading the country in that department with over 1,000 receiving yards this season.
