6 Liberty players/signees were selected in the 2015 MLB draft – Jared Lyons, Ashton Perritt, Alex Close, Ryan McKenna (signee), Nathan Trevillian (signee), and DJ Artis (signee).
Jared Lyons was selected by the Oakland A’s in the 9th round. The senior, left-handed pitcher was the 2015 Big South Pitcher of the Year after finishing the season with an 8-2 record and ERA of 1.99. He also struck out 100 batters while allowing just 22 walks.
Senior Ashton Perritt was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 24th round. He was also drafted in the 2014 MLB draft in the 17th round by the Atlanta Braves, but elected to return to Liberty for his senior season.
Senior Alex Close was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 26th round. Close, who was drafted as a catcher, was also selected by the Royals in the 2014 MLB draft. Last year, the Royals selected him in the 27th round. He finished his senior season with a .342 batting average with 7 homeruns and 46 RBIs.
Ryan McKenna is a 5’10”, 185-pound outfielder from Maine. He was selected in the 4th round by the Baltimore Orioles. Nathan Trevillian is a 6’3″, 165-pound right-handed pitcher from Amherst, Virginia. He was selected in the 22nd round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. DJ Artis is a 5’11”, 170-pound outfielder from Greensboro, North Carolina.
McKenna, Trevillian, and Artis signed with Coach Toman and the Flames in December. Trevillian plans on entering the draft, no official word from McKenna or Artis to this point.
