Coach Gill and Josh Woodrum met with the media this afternoon discussing the team’s win over Presbyterian and looking ahead to the Big South showdown with #8 Charleston Southern on Saturday. Here are 6 notables from today’s press conference:
- Opportunity. Coach Gill opened his press conference talking about the opportunity the Flames have in front of them with 2 top 10 opponents on the schedule. Liberty could finish with 3 top 10 wins (Montana was in top 10 when LU beat them) and an FBS win this season. Opportunity was a reoccurring theme throughout the media availability.
- Gill said it’s Charleston Southern’s defense that has “put them over the hump” from being a good team to a team that is ranked in the top 10 and will be making the FCS playoffs appearance for the first time in school history.
- Josh Woodrum on the team’s mentality in the 4th quarter against Presbyterian: “there wasn’t any panic on the sideline…just a confidence in our game plan.”
- Coach Gill said the difference between the 4th quarter and the rest of the game against PC was simply that everyone made plays in the 4th quarter.
- Gill said he has seen drastic improvement in the Charleston Southern program since Jamey Chadwell took over 3 years ago.
- Will the Flames make the playoffs if they win out? Gill says the team has to focus on taking care of business by winning the 2 games in front of them and “after that we’ll see what happens.”
