Liberty and head coach Jamey Chadwell continue to add to the 2023 roster, picking up a commitment from Boston College transfer Jason Maitre on Thursday.
The 5’10”, 188 pound defensive back played the last five years at Boston College, starting all 12 games in 2022. Out of Everett High School, Maitre was the top ranked athlete in Massachusetts and the state’s No. 7 overall recruit according to 247 Sports. As a redshirt-freshman in 2019, he played in 11 games and made six starts, totaling 34 tackles with one interception and six PBUs. In 2020, Maitre played in 11 games with six starts at cornerback, finishing ninth on the team with 32 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, two sacks, 3 pass breakups and one interception.
In 2021, Maitre was moved to free safety where he made 23 tackles with three PBUs, two TFLs, and a sack. This past year, he played both at safety and at corner. He played in all 12 games, finishing with 42 tackles and an interception.
He chose Liberty over several offers since entering the portal including Oklahoma State, USF, and Texas A&M.
Maitre is the second transfer portal commit for Chadwell and the Flames in as many days, joining Wake Forest running back transfer Quinton Cooley. Liberty added 13 signees to the 2023 class on Wednesday.
