1. JMU screwed our schedule up.
4 straight road games, 5 of the first 7 away from Williams Stadium, and only 5 home games all season. Thanks JMU.
2. Gary Sampson’s loss was critical.
Safety was going to be a question mark regardless with having to replace Jacob Hagen, but when the other returning starter in Gary Sampson was “removed from the football team”, the Flames’ faced what would become an insurmountable hole in the secondary.
3. Injuries on the O-line kept the unit from establishing any consistency.
It began before the season started with Wake Forest transfer Will Smith was lost due to injury and continued throughout the year.
4. The team leadership did not develop as needed.
Blame it on the coaches, the 4th-year starting quarterback, or the other team captains, leadership is to be blamed for the team not being focused against Gardner-Webb and Monmouth.
5. Jamey Chadwell.
Charleston Southern is not supposed to be this good.
6. Injuries.
D.J. Abnar, Lucas Holder, Kendall Couamin, James Passmore, Will Johnson, Will Smith, Erwin Dessources. They really mounted up as the season progressed.
7. Liberty students don’t know how to handle a hangover.
The Flames had a hangover after making the playoffs for the first time in school history last season, but they were unable to recover quick enough to focus on the task at hand in 2015.
My thoughts exactly!!! 1 thru 7 are 100% accurate without a doubt!!
I agree with the first seven. However, I would also have included Kevin Grooms transferring to Liberty and subsequently leaving. I have a hunch that had Grooms stayed the running back position might have been slightly more potent. Clearly the loss of DJ Abnar did not help!
