The Flames have a big matchup with Bryant this Saturday at Williams Stadium.
1. Bryant University is located in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
It has an enrollment of 3,595 students.
2. Their mascot is the Bulldogs.
Though I’m not sure if this guy will make the long bus trip down to Lynchburg this weekend.
2. They are a member of the NEC.
The Bulldogs joined the conference in 2008 after making the jump from Division II. The Northeast Conference is a Division I FCS Football Conference. Members include Robert Morris, Sacred Heart, Wagner, Central Connecticut State, St. Francis, and Duquesne. The newest Big South member, Monmouth, is a former member of the NEC.
3. Bryant defeated Stony Brook, 13-7.
Stony Brook was held to 85 rushing yards and was just 2-for-16 on 3rd down conversions in both teams’ season opener.
4. This past Saturday, Bryant upset #23 Maine, 13-10.
QB Dalton Easton threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Chad Ward with 2 minutes left in the game to take the 13-10 lead. Maine was just 3-for-13 on 3rd down conversions.
5. The Bulldogs are 3-0 on the season.
Bryant also beat Division II Merrimack, 40-14. The 3-0 start is the best for the program since the 2010 season when they opened with 3 straight victories, 2 of which were against sub-Division I opponents.
6. Bryant’s defense is holding opponents to 10.33 points per game this season.
It’s still too early to know how good their defense is, but Liberty quarterback Josh Woodrum said after the Brevard game Saturday night that “(Bryant’s) front 7 is better than Norfolk State’s.”
7. Bryant’s offense has only scored 26 points in their 2 DI games.
The Bulldogs had 29 rushing yards against Maine. Twenty-nine! Sophomore quarterback Dalton Easton (#2 pictured above) leads Bryant with 548 passing yards, 5 touchdowns, and 1 interception in the first 3 games of the season. Easton transferred to Bryant from Akron.
