Liberty had 8 student-athletes voted to the Big South’s preseason All-Conference teams as announced at Big South Media Day on Tuesday.
Offensive lineman Dontae Duff and running back Carrington Mosley received the nod on offense while defensive lineman Juwan Wells and defensive back Chris Turner were chosen on the defense. The Flames swept the preseason Big South selections at special teams as kicker Alex Probert, punter Trey Turner, long snapper Hunter Winstead, and kick returner Frankie Hickson were named to the preseason team.
With Liberty spending 2017 as its first of a two year transition from FCS to FBS, it is not eligible to win the Big South’s automatic bid to the FCS playoffs or to advance to the FCS playoffs as an at-large. Yet, since Liberty is playing a full Big South conference schedule in 2017, its football games against other Big South members will count towards the conference standings. The Flames will be listed at the bottom of the standings with an asterisk denoting its ineligibility for the Big South Championship.
Liberty was ineligible for the preseason poll, but the Flames’ student-athletes remain eligible for all preseason, in-season, and postseason awards.
