It is official now, the Liberty Flames are headed to the Bahamas Bowl to take on Buffalo on Satudray, January 4.It will be a matchup of the CUSA’s fourth place team against the MAC’s third place team.
Liberty’s 2024 schedule ended up featuring four teams that advanced to a bowl game. The Flames finished the regular season with a 2-2 record against those bowl teams. Liberty defeated East Carolina and Western Kentucky while losing to Jacksonville State and Sam Houston,
Here’s a look at where those teams will be playing this bowl season:
- East Carolina (7-5) is headed to the Military Bowl to play NC State on Dec. 28
- Jacksonville State (9-4) will play Ohio in the Cure Bowl on Dec. 20 in a matchup between the CUSA and MAC champs
- Western Kentucky (8-5) will play James Madison in the Boca Raton Bowl on Dec. 18
- Sam Houston (9-3) will play Georgia Southern in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 19
Last year, Liberty was a perfect 6-0 against bowl teams during the regular season. In both 2021 and 2022, the Flames were 4-3 against bowl teams. In 2020, Liberty was 1-1 against bowl teams, and in the Flames’ first season as a full FBS member in 2019, Liberty played four bowl teams (Louisiana, Buffalo, BYU, and Virginia), going 1-3 in those games. In 2018, the Flames were 1-4 against bowl teams.
Liberty is now 19-16 against bowl teams since becoming an FBS member. 2024 ended a streak of three straight seasons the Flames posted a winning record against bowl teams.
