On Wednesday, the ACC officially announced a revised scheduling plan for the 2020 football season amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The conference will play 11 games, 10 conference games plus one non-conference with the season’s first games taking place the week of Sept. 7-12.
Liberty was scheduled to open the 2020 season in Blacksburg against Virginia Tech, a member of the ACC, on Sept. 5. That game will not happen on that date, but could happen as part of Virginia Tech’s 1 non-conference opponent.
The Flames are scheduled to face a total of three ACC teams this season, travelling to Syracuse on Oct. 17 and NC State on Nov. 21. The status of Liberty’s 3 games against ACC opponents is unknown at this time.
Additionally, the ACC announced that all non-conference opponents “must meet the medical protocol requirements as agreed upon by the ACC” and all non-conference games must be played in the home state of the ACC institution.
Notre Dame will also play a 10-game ACC schedule and will be eligible to compete in the 2020 ACC Football Championship game. This rules out the potential of a Liberty-Notre Dame matchup in 2020 in an all-FBS Independent scheduling alliance.
