On Tuesday night, Liberty AD Ian McCaw (as well as head coach Jamey Chadwell) joined the ASOR Podcast to discuss several topics including the upcoming Bahamas Bowl, revenue sharing, and he also broke some news by announcing who the Flames will be playing in the non-conference portion of their schedule from 2025-2027.
As we previously reported, the 2025 non-conference schedule is already complete as Liberty will open the season on Aug. 30 at Williams Stadium against Maine. The Flames will then play at Bowling Green on Sept. 13, host James Madison on Sept. 20, and conclude its non-conference schedule on Sept. 27 at Old Dominion.
In 2026, we already knew Liberty would open the season at JMU on Sept. 5 and host Ball State on Sept. 19. McCaw announced during the ASOR Podcast, that Liberty would also be playing Gardner-Webb and Coastal Carolina during the 2026 season. No dates were provided. Liberty would certainly host Gardner-Webb at Williams Stadium, but no location is currently known for the game against Coastal Carolina. McCaw had previously hinted that Liberty was working on a neutral site game against another G5 program for 2026, so this could be that game.
In 2027, we already knew Liberty would open the season at Virginia Tech on Sept. 4, the first P4 opponent Liberty is slated to play during the regular season since making the move to Conference USA for the 2023 season. The Flames will also play at Coastal Carolina on Sept. 18 and host UConn on November 13. McCaw announced during the podcast that the Flames will also play FCS Delaware State to round out the 2027 slate.
Now that we know the non-conference schedules for the next three seasons, we now wait to see what Liberty’s CUSA slate will look like in 2025. Those schedules are normally released no later than February each year, and McCaw stated he hopes to receive it “any day”. With Missouri State and Delaware joining the league next season, there will be 12 league members. Liberty will play 8 of the 12 and not play the other four in 2025.
