Suspended Liberty University running back Aldreakis Allen had a hearing this morning at 10 AM. He has been charged with one count each of attempted robbery of a residence and malicious wounding from incidents which occurred on March 3.
According to the News & Advance, Allen’s charges were certified this morning and his case will head to a June 3rd grand jury where the case could be sent to circuit court. The N&A story states “Cory Reed testified Thursday that Allen tried to take his wallet at a party on Demott Street in Lynchburg on April 3, then struck Reed in the eye with a closed fist, causing broken facial bones and a detached retina. Reed testified he has already undergone two surgeries and has multiple procedures scheduled.”
No timetable has been given for Allen’s suspension, and he is still listed on Liberty’s roster. We will continue to keep you updated on this story throughout the Summer.
Indicted or not, Aldreakis Allen’s LU career should be over. Thankfully, and contrary to earlier reports, there was no weapon involved in this “robbery”. In my mind, the incident is not nearly as serious as I feared.
Nonetheless, he deserves to experience the consequences of his actions. A soccer referee in Utah died from one punch. LU players get strong to play a game on a field, not work as bouncers. Choking a guy with one hand? Why didn’t he use two hands? Because he only needed one, that’s why.
Going to parties, threatening and playing the bully, getting into fights….typical jock stuff.
But LU players aren’t typical jocks. Turner Gill and crew sadly need to part ways with Aldreakis Allen, their best player, to protect the integrity of the program and to send a clear message to current and future players that at LU values do matter and the rhetoric matches reality. If LU does obtain FBS status, its program should stand in sharp contrast to the scandal-ridden, profit-driven, win-at-all-cost cesspool that big-time college football has become. It’s a complete misnomer to refer to it as ‘Amateur Athletics’.
Aldreakis Allen has my prayers. His college career and personal life go into a very public tailspin for $10. That’s a very costly $10.
I am sorry I must have missed it where the court found him guilty. You act like you know the whole story. You were not at the party! You did not see Aldreakis supposedly punch this kid in the face. I have heard from multiple sources that Cory went to Panama City for spring break and partied it up. How can someone party so hard if they have broken facial bones? Why don’t you wait to see what happens in court before you start to judge someone.
The word “judge” means “to condemn” and I didn’t do that. A guilty or non-guilty verdict would come after an indictment and trial. I did, however, take the newspaper article seriously. A judge certified the charges. What does that mean to you?
And if you are claiming that the victim faked his injuries then why did he have surgeries? His bones weren’t broken? You don’t think the judge saw the medical records? You better tell the judge about your Panama City spring break “multiple sources” and help AA out.
What about the witness? He told the judge he saw the punch. You think he’s lying too? Was the $10 debt account made up as well? Your pal, Cory, sure has a vivid imagination.
The good news is that Aldreakis will have his chance to disprove everything even if he is indicted, won’t he? Too bad he didn’t save himself from the whole mess that night by avoiding “partying” with a bunch of apparent losers. What a novel concept, staying out of trouble by avoiding trouble!
