Following Liberty’s 62-27 win Saturday night over Hampton, Coach Hugh Freeze awarded punter Aidan Alves and long snapper Austin Mock a scholarship.

“That’s a joy as a coach,” Freeze said of being able to award the pair scholarships. “Happy for both Aiden and Austin, they are both very deserving. They have done a great job for us this season, I’m happy to do that.”

Alves is a redshirt-sophomore from Dillsburg, Pennsylvania. He joined the program in 2017 when he was redshirted. Last season, he took over as the team’s starting punter and finished the year averaging 37.0 yards per punt. Through the team’s first four games this season, Alves is averaging 41.1 yards per punt with seven of his 21 punts being downed inside the 20 yard line.

Mock is also a redshirt-sophomore who attended Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg, Virginia. He played in all 12 games as Liberty’s long snapper in 2018 and has cemented himself in that position again for the 2019 season.

“Those two have performed extraordinarily well,” said Freeze. “I think they’ve earned it. I talked to both sets of parents the night before. It’s special for those families. You sish you could give it to everybody who spends every hour with you on the team. You hurt for those because you know there are others that want it too, but certainly you celebrate with those kids and their families. They are very deserving of it.”
