Saturday was the deadline for NFL teams to trim their rosters to 53, and at the end of the day Antonio Gandy-Golden was the only former Liberty Flame to make an NFL roster as he remains with the Washington Football team.
AGG was selected in the 4th round of the 2020 NFL draft by Washington, and reports out of training camp in the Nation’s Capital have been positive since he arrived in Washington. Despite missing several days of practice in the last week, Gandy-Golden is expected to compete for a starting position in Washington’s wide receivers unit.
Gandy-Golden was one of five former Flames as part of the 2020 class who signed with NFL teams. Jessie Lemonier, Solomon Ajayi, Elijah Benton, and Bejour Wilson all signed undrafted free agent deals following the 2020 draft, marking a record for most Flames in one class to sign an NFL contract.
Wilson was cut by the Arizona Cardinals in July. Lemonier, Ajayi, and Benton all showed promise throughout the summer and the start of training camp, but all three were cut by their respective teams on Saturday.
Elijah Benton and Jessie Lemonier have each signed to their teams’ practice squad, Benton with the Browns and Lemonier with the Chargers.
Former Liberty standout Walt Aikens was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2014. He played six years in Miami before becoming a free agent following the 2019 season. A couple weeks ago, Aikens signed a free agent deal with the Tennessee Titans before the deal feel through after Aikens failed his physical. He remains a free agent
