Liberty has picked up a commitment from Auburn senior defensive lineman Dre Butler, sources say. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
A 6’5″, 298 pound lineman from Covington, Georgia, Butler spent two seasons with Auburn after a two-year stint at Independence Community College, where he developed into a four-star prospect and the No. 4 JUCO player in the nation for the 2020 recruiting cycle. At Independence, Butler recorded 66 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, and 11.5 sacks.
A former blue-chip recruit from the JUCO level, Butler played in nine games and had 14 tackles with two tackles for loss and a sack in 2020 before appearing in just four games in 2021 with six tackles. Since entering the portal, he had offers from UAB, Tulsa, Jacksonville State, UConn, Florida Atlantic, Western Kentucky, Colorado, and Marshall.
Butler is the third former Auburn player to transfer Liberty joining quarterback Malik Willis and defensive tackle Jay Hardy.
