Liberty defeated Maryland Eastern-Shore, 71-49, on a snowy Friday evening in Lynchburg as the Flames move to 7-3 on the season.
The Hawks held their only lead of the game at 4-3 early, but Liberty utilized an 11-0 run while holding UMES scoreless for more than 5 minutes. That run paced the team to a dominating first half where the Flames led by a score of 38-16. Liberty shot 52% from the field in the first 20 minutes while holding the Hawks to just 24%.
Three Flames reached double figures, led by Ryan Kemrite’s 12 points. Kemrite scored all of his points in the first half, while shooting 4/7 from the field and 2/5 from 3. Caleb Homesley added 11 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds in 16 minutes. Myo Baxter-Bell rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points, including a perfect 4/4 mark from the free throw line. Baxter-Bell also had 4 assists and 4 rebounds.
In addition to the double figure scorers, Liberty also had five scorers range from 5 to 9 points. Isaiah Williams (9 points), Scottie James (8 points, 7 rebounds), Elijah Cuffee (8 points), Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz (6 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds), and Lovell Cabbil (5 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists) helped pace the Flames in the victory.
Liberty outscored UMES, 31-7, in bench points and 22-7 in points off turnovers.
After two consecutive overtime games earlier this week, including last Saturday’s triple-overtime thriller, Liberty will now enjoy an extended break with 8 days off until their next game, next Saturday against Kentucky Christian.
