The Flames were able to get off to a hot start in conference play, winning their first two games 17-1 and 5-1 against Campbell, but were unable to complete the sweep, dropping the final game 5-6 in 13 innings. They then recorded a W in a 16 inning battle in Norfolk against ODU, 1-0.
The Flames’ pitching staff had some phenomenal performances throughout the week. Trey Lambert did not allow a run on his way to his fourth win of the season in the 17-1 routing over Campbell. In game 2, Carson Herndon and Blake Fulgham teamed up to hold Campbell to just one run. Against ODU Jared Lyons and Shawn Clowers were able to hold the Monarchs scoreless in the marathon game.
Liberty was also able to get their bats going this week. Nick Lacik led the way with four hits against Campbell in game one. Also, Danny Grauer was able to record a hit in every game on his way to an impressive week in the box scores. Sophomore Dalton Britt has really come on this season and is batting .364, second highest on the team. He recorded four hits at Old Dominion.
This week’s games put the Flames at 15-7 overall and move Liberty up to 52nd in national RPI.
Player of the Week: Jared Lyons
Lyons went nine innings without giving up a run against Old Dominion on Wednesday in an impressive battle of will. Neither team was giving up any runs, but Lyons would not be deterred.
