Week in Review:
Liberty Flames baseball continued their nine-game winning streak after ending a double header with a thrilling walk off single against the Army Black Knights. First baseman, Alex Close, hit the walk off single in the 11th inning making the final score 4-3. The Flames go into this week with a record of 9-2 after impressive victories over East Carolina, 2 over Army, and 2 over Siena. The 9 game winning streak ties a Division I program record. The game with Elon was postponed until May 8.
Player of the Week:
Outfielder Nick Paxton
In the game against Army on March 1 he went 4-4, hitting for a cycle. Paxton played a big role in the Flames offense with 2 RBIs and scoring half of Liberty’s runs against Army. For the week Paxton totaled 8 runs and 3 RBI’s while batting 8/16.
Next up:
The Flames have a busy week ahead with five games scheduled. They play at home the first two games of the week against William & Mary and Maryland. The Flames then travel to Athens, GA to face the University of Georgia Bulldogs for a three game series beginning Friday, March 8 at 7 p.m.
William & Mary (6-5) lost their five-game winning streak this past Saturday to Penn State in the third of their four game series. Earlier this season, the Tribe won all three games of the series against Siena. First pitch at Liberty is scheduled for Noon March 5.
Liberty faces Maryland March 6 with the first pitch scheduled at 3 p.m. Maryland (9-3) swept Princeton in a four game series this past weekend to continue their eight-game winning streak. Their only losses this season were to the LSU Tigers the first three games of the season.
The Flames are away this weekend against the UGA Bulldogs. The Bulldogs (5-6), swept UAB this past weekend at home in Athens.
