Finally, some actual games to talk about. The Big South scored a couple of impressive non-conference victories in week 1.
1. Liberty 0-1
The Flames once again came up a bit short against an FBS opponent, losing to Kent State 17-10. The Flames looked overmatched in the 1st quarter, but rebounded nicely in the 2nd half against a MAC team that won 11 games a season ago.
Next: vs Monmouth
2. Coastal Carolina 1-0
The Chanticleers scored the only points in the 4th quarter to beat South Carolina State 27-20. Quarterback Alex Ross was 21/33 for 162 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 pick in his first game after replacing Aramis Hillary.
Next: vs Furman
3. Charleston Southern 1-0
Charleston Southern scored an impressive victory on the road against cross town rival the Citadel of the Southern Conference. A very impressive win in head coach Jamey Chadwell’s debut.
Next: vs Shorter
4. Gardner Webb 1-0
New head coach Carroll McCray led the Runnin’ Bulldogs beat Furman of the Southern Conference 28-21. Another solid non-conference win in week 1 for the Big South.
Next: @ Marshall
5. VMI 0-1
The Keydets were embarrassed by former Liberty head coach Danny Rocco and his Richmond Spiders 34-0.
Next: vs Glenville State
6. Presbyterian 0-1
After jumping out to a 7-3 early lead over Wake Forest, Presbyterian was unable to score again as they fell 31-7 to the Demon Deacons.
Next: vs Brevard
should be
Liberty – only because they lost to FBS team but a loss is still a loss and easily could drop to #3
Charleston Southern – because Citadel is a better opponent than SC State
Coastal – because even tho they won they beat a team that would rand lower than the Citadel
All IMO
I still don’t see how Liberty is first. “Cool your flames.” Coastal Carolina should be the undisputed best team in the Big South. If they didn’t have to travel to Lynchburg then you would have them first instead of second. You are placing them second based on what you expect to happen and not based on their current merit. Coastal Carolina is the best team in the Big South right now.
