Another good week for the Big South as the conference goes 5-1 with the only loss being to an FBS team and another win over the SoCon.

Liberty looked good in their home opener as they routed Monmouth 45-15. It was 45-6 at the end of the 4th quarter.

2. (2) Coastal Carolina 2-0
The Chanticleers were able to hold off Furman 35-28. Coastal led much of the game by two touchdowns.

3. (3) Charleston Southern 2-0
Charleston Southern improved to 2-0 on the season with a 23-15 victory of Shorter. The Buccaneers are 2-0 for the first time since 2006 when they started 9-0.

4. (4) Gardner Webb 1-1
The Runnin’ Bulldogs were shutout by Marshall 55-0.

5. (6) Presbyterian 1-1
The Blue Hose were tied with Division II Brevard at 21 at the half, but outscored the Tornados 14-3 in the 2nd half to win 42-24.

6. (5) VMI 1-1
The Keydets stopped Glenville State on 2 consecutive running plays from the 1 yard line as time expired giving VMI the win 34-27. Quarterback Eric Kordenbrock set a school record with 4 passing touchdowns in the win.

Again, I have a hard time putting Coastal Caroline behind Liberty, especially since they beat opponents better than the ones LU beat. I believe they have 19 starters back from last year’s squad that dominated Liberty and have both the offensive and defensive preseason all-conference players. I think you are underestimating Coastal based on the fact you expect Liberty to beat them at Lynchburg this year.
