The conference continues its best ever nonconference showing, this time with a win over Wofford on the road, and a couple wins over MEAC schools.
Note: last week’s ranking in parenthesis.
1. (1) Coastal Carolina 4-0
The Chanticleers continue to show their strength, and may be worthy of a top 10 national ranking before the season is over. The Chanticleers took care of business again Saturday, this time against Hampton from the MEAC. Coastal was up 40-0 at halftime, and went on to win 50-17. Coastal outgained the Pirates 511-278, and had 5 rushers go for 30 yards rushing or more.

2. (3) Gardner Webb 3-1
The Runnin’ Bulldogs picked up an impressive win over a top 15 FCS team for the 2nd week in a row as they knocked off Wofford 3-0. The game was played in a torrential downpour and neither team could get much going on offense. Gardner-Webb took the ball over at Wofford’s 1 yard line on the only scoring drive of the night.

3. (2) Liberty 2-2
Another FCS test for the Flames and another close loss. Liberty could not beat former head coach Danny Rocco and his Richmond Spiders in monsoon like conditions in Richmond, Virginia. Final score was 30-21.

4. (4) Charleston Southern 4-0
Charleston Southern is now 4-0 with a win over Norfolk State 20-12. The 4 wins have come at the hands of 1-3 the Citadel, Shorter, Campbell, and Norfolk State. Are the Buccaneers for real? We should find out a lot more about them this weekend when they face perennial power Appalachian State.
