Here are our Big South Football Power Rankings which we will update each week during the season.

Note: Last week’s ranking in parenthesis.

1. (1) Coastal Carolina 4-0

Last week: CCU 48, Florida A&M 3

The Chanticleers continue to roll on all cylinders as they routed Florida A&M 48-3. Coastal remains unbeaten on the season and Alex Ross threw for 132 yards and 1 touchdown. Ross also added a touchdown on the ground. CCU converted 2 FAMU turnovers into points, 1 a fumble recovery for a touchdown and the other a blocked punt which went for a touchdown one play later. The Chants have scored 30 or more points in each game this season.

2. (2) Liberty 3-1

Last week: Liberty 38, Bryant 21

The Flames jumped out to an early 24-0 lead before Bryant responded with 2 touchdowns in the final 3 minutes of the first half.  Josh Woodrum would lead Liberty on a touchdown drive on the first possession of the 2nd half giving LU a 31-7 lead as they went on to the victory. Woodrum was 24/34 passing for 319 yards and 1 touchdown. He also added 2 rushing touchdowns on the evening. John Lunsford booted a school record 57-yard field goal in the 1st quarter.

3. (3) Charleston Southern 4-0

Last week: CSU 20, the Citadel 18

Charleston Southern beats the first full scholarship team they have played this season, the Citadel, 20-18. The Buccaneers led 17-3 midway through the 3rd quarter before the Citadel narrowed the game to 17-10 entering the 4th quarter. The Citadel had a final chance to take the lead in the final minutes of the game, but CSU forced a fumble near midfield with 1:26 to play. The Buccaneers were able to run out the clock following the fumble.

4. (6) Gardner-Webb 2-2

Last week: GWU 43, Wofford 36

Lucas Beatty threw for 233 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for another score to lead Gardner-Webb to a comeback win over Wofford, 43-36. The Runnin’ Bulldogs scored the winning touchdown with 2 minutes left in the game on a 5 yard pass from Beatty to Kenny Cook. Cook finished the game with 6 receptions for 59 yards and the one score.

5. (4) Monmouth 2-1

Last week: Duquesne 30, Monmouth 21

After leading 27-7 late in the 3rd quarter, Duquesne held on to hand Monmouth  its first loss on the season, 30-21. Duquesne held the Hawks to 38 yards rushing on the afternoon. Monmouth quarterback Brandon Hill threw for 258 yards and 2 touchdowns in the loss.

6. (5) Presbyterian 2-2

Last week: NC State 42, PC 0

The Blue Hose were held to 252 total yards while allowing nearly 500 to the Wolfpack in their blowout loss to NC State, 42-0. The game was 7-0 late in the 1st half until NC State scored 2 touchdowns in the final 2 minutes of the first half giving the Wolfpack a 21-0 lead at the break.
