Not much else can be said other than the Big South is a much improved conference this year. Another solid showing this weekend with Charleston Southern beating Appalachian State. Yes, you read that right. No, you’re not dreaming.
Note: last week’s ranking in parenthesis.
1. (1) Coastal Carolina 5-0
Coastal with another impressive win, this time at the hands of Elon, 53-28. The Chanticleers have a bye week then face Gardner-Webb and Liberty to open conference play.

2. (2) Gardner Webb 4-1
Gardner-Webb beat Point 55-7. Not sure who or what Point is. The Runnin’ Bulldogs face neighbor Charlotte Saturday.
Next: @ Charlotte
3. (4) Charleston Southern 5-0
Okay, the Buccaneers are to be taken seriously. After closer than expected wins over Norfolk State and Campbell, Charleston Southern proved their 4-0 start is no fluke as they dispatched Appalachian State 27-24.
Next: vs North Greenville
4. (3) Liberty 3-2
Flames beat Division II Kentucky Wesleyan 73-7 in a sleeper.
Next: @ Old Dominion
5. (5) Presbyterian 1-3
The Blue Hose are thankful for VMI. Presby lost 45-21 against startup program Charlotte.
Next: @ Wofford
6. (6) VMI 1-4
The Keydets actually showed some life this week as they forced overtime against Robert Morris only to lose 37-31. VMI has a bye this week before starting conference play October 12th against Charleston Southern.

If Liberty can finally close the deal and beat an in-state, non-conference “rival” then maybe they can earn some respect and praise. Beat a team that’s actually FBS ready and then maybe you can start down the path of FBS readiness. Go Flames!
