For the first time since the 2004 football season, Liberty football will have a new strength and conditioning coach, as Bill Gillespie announces on his Facebook account that he has not been retained by new Liberty head football coach Hugh Freeze.
Gillespie has been the program’s director of strength and conditioning under head coaches Ken Karcher, Danny Rocco, and Turner Gill. He returned to Liberty in late 2004, a place he got his coaching start at the collegiate level in 1983. He left the Hill City in 1991, and became a member of the strength and conditioning staff at Washington. He was promoted to director of strength and conditioning in 1999. In 2001, he was named the Pac-10 strength and conditioning coach of the year, while also finishing as a finalist for national strength and conditioning coach of the year. Gillespie also spent two years as an assistant strength and conditioning coach in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks prior to his return to Liberty.
Gillespie earned his bachelor’s degree at Liberty in 1983 while also being a part of the school’s track & field and football teams.
