FootballScoop is reporting that Coach Freeze is hiring Bruce Johnson to replace Mike Brown as his running backs coach.
Johnson will come to Liberty after one season at Indiana as assistant athletic director for on campus recruiting. He was an assistant at Ole Miss from 2012-17 working in a variety of roles including tight ends, running backs, and offensive line. Johnson was part of the Freeze staff at Ole Miss that had three straight top 10 recruiting classes. He was the assistant offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 2010-11 while also coaching at Jackson State from 2006-09 as special teams coordinator and offensive line coach.
Other coaching stops for Johnson include Alabama State, San Diego, Phoenix College, and two different high schools. His playing career spanned 1995-1997 football seasons at Arizona and Norfolk State.
Johnson will be Liberty’s 5th running back coach in as many seasons, following Mike Brown, Ron Brown, Scott Downing, and Jamaal Fobbs who each had 1 season as RB coach under Turner Gill.
