On Monday, Liberty officially finalized its 2021 men’s basketball recruiting class as Bryson Spell signed his National Letter of Intent. The 6’9″ forward from Virginia Beach joins Brody Peebles, Joseph Venzant, and DJ Moore to round out the Flames’ recruiting class.
The product of Cape Henry Collegiate School, Spell was originally committed to Cincinnati before their head coach John Brannen was fired and replaced by former UNC Greensboro head coach Wes Miller. Spell decommitted from Cincinnati at that point and reopened his recruitment.
Spell had offers from several schools including Elon, George Washington, Old Dominion, and Virginia Tech. North Carolina, under new head coach Hubert Davis, was also pursuing Spell but never pulled the trigger on an offer to the athletic big man. Spell averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds during his senior season, leading Cape Henry to an undefeated state championship season.
