We’ll be taking an in-depth look this week at Liberty and Coastal by the numbers. First up today is Coastal’s offense vs Liberty’s defense.
The Flames are allowing 207.7 passing yards per game compared to Coastal’s 213.7 passing yards each game. Liberty’s number is much higher than it was earlier in the season as they gave up over 400 yards in the air to Old Dominion.
Both teams’ strength on this side of the ball is obviously rushing and stopping the rush. Coastal has the 5th best rushing offense in all of FCS rushing for over 270 yards per game. The Flames’ rushing defense is #27 in the country while holding their opponents to 126 rushing yards per game.
Liberty’s defense is one of the best in stopping teams in the red zone. The Flames rank #3 in the country as their opponents only score on 60% of their possessions inside Liberty’s red zone. Coastal’s offense has been very efficient when they get inside the 20 as they are the 2nd best team in FCS scoring over 97% of the time they reach the red zone.
Coastal is the 5th best team in the country scoring 43 points per game while Liberty’s defense is only allowing 16.7 points per game which is good for 6th best in the country. Which team strength will prevail?
Check back tomorrow as we look in detail at the numbers between Liberty’s offense and Coastal’s defense.
