Former Liberty guard Caleb Homesley made his professional debut on Sunday night with the Washington Wizards in an NBA Preseason game.

The 6’6″, 205 pound rookie, who was wearing the No. 1 jersey he will hopefully have retired at Liberty one day, played in 10 minutes. He scored 2 points while grabbing 4 rebounds, including 1 offensive, while shooting 1 of 7 from the field and 0 of 5 from three point range in the Wizards 119-114 loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

Last month, Homesley signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Wizards becoming the fourth player in Liberty school history to sign an NBA deal. Liberty’s previous players that signed NBA deals include Julius Nwosu (1995/San Antonio Spurs), Peter Aluma (1998/Sacramento Kings), and Seth Curry (2013/Memphis Grizzlies).

Despite going undrafted in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Wizards signed him to an Exhibit 10 contract with an invite to their training camp. In sum, Exhibit-10 deals are one-year contracts for the league minimum salary. The deals come with an optional bonus of up to $50,000 if the player doesn’t make it in camp but is assigned to the team’s G-League affiliate.

Homesley finished his Liberty career as one of the best players in school history. He was a two-year ASUN First Team All-Conference selection, including being named the 2020 ASUN Player of the Year and Tournament MVP during his senior campaign as he helped the Flames to 59 wins and back to back ASUN regular season and Tournament championships his final two seasons.

Homesley finished his Liberty career No. 10 on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,539 points and No. 8 on the all-time rebounding list with 703 rebounds. The next chance to see the former Liberty star is on Thursday night when the Wizards host the Detroit Piston at 7 p.m. in a game that will be televised on NBC Sports Washington. The NBA season is scheduled to begin on Dec. 22.
