Update 8/29/19 4:05 pm: Freeze will not be at practice Thursday and will not meet with the media. If Coach Freeze is coaching from the press box on Saturday, Co-OC and WR Coach Maurice Harris will be the coaching contact on the field for the officials and will relay info from Coach Freeze to the rest of the team.
Update: We have confirmed that Coach Freeze has been released from the hospital and is back in the hotel. He was taken to the hospital for additional tests on Wednesday after his back spasms returned.
Coach Hugh Freeze was back in the hospital today as back pain has returned, Liberty Senior Vice President for Spiritual Development David Nasser stated at Campus Community Wednesday night.
Freeze missed much of Liberty’s training camp as he was hospitalized first for what he believed to be back spasms. He then underwent surgery for a staph infection at UVA Medical Center on Friday, August 16th. He was released on Wednesday, August 21st.
Per Nasser, Freeze had an MRI today and was waiting on the results.
Upon release, he stayed at the Fairfield Inn & Suites adjacent to Liberty’s campus. From his room he was able to watch his Liberty football team practice live while also being able to communicate with the coaches and players instantaneously.
He made a surprise visit to practice last Friday afternoon and had been attending practice this week from a golf cart.
Freeze is scheduled to meet with the media Thursday evening after practice. We will update this story as we learn more information.
