Update: FootballScoop is also reporting that Mike Brown will remain on Coach Freeze’s staff as running backs coach. 2018 was Brown’s first season at Liberty coaching the running backs. He starred with the Flames as a wide receiver and quarterback before a short career as a wide receiver in the NFL. With today’s moves, Freeze’s offensive staff is almost complete, as he needs just an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
FootballScoop also states, Aaron Wilkins and Kyle DeArmon “have been retained and are moving into new roles off the field.”
As we reported as part of our National Signing Day Coverage on Wednesday, Coach Freeze is adding Tanner Burns and Ben Aigamaua to his coaching staff. Football Scoop is also reporting two additional hires today, in Sam Gregg and Maurice Harris.
Tanner Burns is joining the staff as special teams coordinator. Burns comes to Liberty after 5 seasons as a quality control coach for special teams at Arkansas. He also spent the 2013 season as a coaching intern with the Oakland Raiders, working primarily with their special teams. He knows Freeze from his playing days at Ole Miss.
Ben Aigamaua comes to Liberty after being on staff at Ole Miss since 2012, assisting with the offensive line and most recently as the Assistant Athletics Director for Community Relations. He’s also served on staff at Arkansas Tech and Lambuth. He played football at Lambuth from 2006-09 and was a starting defensive tackle all 4 seasons. He is likely to be the team’s tight ends coach.
Gregg will join the staff as coach of the offensive line. He comes to Liberty from Division II West Georgia where he has been the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. He’s spent several seasons at the DII level, including his time at West Georgia as well as West Alabama and Arkansas-Monticello. Other coaching stops include Southwest Baptist, Memphis, and Itawamba Community College.
Harris will join Coach Freeze’s staff as receivers coach. He comes to Liberty from Ole Miss where he is currently the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator. He’s been there since 2011, serving under Coach Freeze for his tenure with the Rebels. He was also part of Freeze’s staff at Arkansas State. His coach resume also includes a stop at Alabama State.
