Former Coastal Carolina and Kansas quarterback Ethan Vasko has committed to Liberty. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
The 6’3″, 220 pound quarterback is originally from Chesapeake, Virginia where he attended Oscar Smith High School. He began his college career at Kansas before transferring to Coastal Carolina and new head coach Tim Beck following the 2022 season.
He started all 12 games for Coastal in 2024, throwing 14 touchdowns and 8 interceptions with a 55% completion percentage while throwing for over 2,000 yards. It was a bit of an up and down season for Vasko as his top two receivers from the previous season had departed and there was inconsistency at the position most of the year.
In his most recent performance, Vasko completed 13 of 17 passes for 200 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. He also rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown on 13 rushing attempts. The regular season finale performance at Georgia State helped lift the Chanticleers to the win and bowl eligibility.
In 2023, as a redshirt-freshman, Vasko played some after Grayson McCall was injured. In four starts, he threw 7 touchdowns and had just one interception. He had 7 appearances total during 2023, completing 63% of his passes for almost 800 yards.
Vasko was named Hawaii Bowl MVP following a 24-14 Chanticleer win over San Jose State to end the 2023 campaign. He finished the game with 199 yards passing and three touchdowns.
During his two seasons at Coastal, Vasko played in 20 games. He completed 224 of his 393 passes for 2,889 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. A mobile quarterback, Vasko rushed the ball 170 times for 815 yards and 7 scores.
Prior to his time at Coastal Carolina, Vasko began his college career at Kansas where he redshirted as a true freshman in 2022. He played in one game for the Jayhawks, completing 3 of 5 passes for 13 yards with two rushes for six yards against Texas Tech.
Vasko was a three-star recruit coming out of high school with offers from hometown Old Dominion, Virginia Tech, South Florida, Buffalo, UConn, Penn, and Columbia before Kansas got involved. He helped lead Oscar Smith to three state championship games and back-to-back state championships. He broke the Virginia High School record with 10 touchdowns in a single game and tied the state record with 9 touchdown passes in a single game. Vasko recorded a 35-3 record as a starting quarterback with 9,203 total yards and 134 total touchdowns during his high school career.
Vasko will be expected to come in and compete for Liberty’s starting quarterback position in 2025. The Flames return Ryan Burger and Jayden Bradford, and also bring in highly touted freshman Ethan Houck. Vasko will bring in a much-needed veteran with significant playing experience at the FBS level to the room.
