The football verbal commitments continue to roll in for Coach Gill and the Flames as they pick up commitment #8 in the Class of 2017, the 4th verbal pledge this week.
Commitment #8 is Mason Cunningham, a dual threat JUCO quarterback. Cunningham is a 6’2″, 185 pound prospect who is currently a freshman at Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville, Mississippi. He’s originally from Shelbyville, Tennessee where he attended Shelbyville Central High School. Cunningham also has an offer from Southeast Missouri State.
In 9 games this season at Northeast Mississippi, Cunningham was 160/280 passing for 1,810 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He added 185 rushing yards and 6 rushing touchdowns. He helped lead Northeast to a 6-3 record. Cunningham will have 3 years of eligibility remaining. He plans on enrolling at Liberty in January.

How do you feel about this commitment considering he has three years eligibility remaining and just the other day you posted an article saying Liberty has its QB for the next 3 years in Buckshot?
It’s interesting especially considering Coach Gill told me a couple weeks ago that he didn’t plan on bringing any JUCO QBs in. Cunningham does have a redshirt year available. So, in theory, he could redshirt one year, be Buckshot’s backup for 2 years, and then be the heir apparent his senior year. The Flames did need to bring in another QB in this class, I would have just expected it to be a guy right out of high school.
