Darius McGhee, who has just concluded his collegiate career at Liberty, participated in several all-star events as part of the festivities surrounding the Final Four in Houston this past week.

It began Wednesday night when McGhee participated in the State Farm College Team Skills & 3X3U Championships. The event, which was televised on Sunday night, was played at the Bayou Music Center. McGhee and Team Sky-Walkers won the Celsius Obstacle Course skill challenge and finished runner-up in the 3X3U Championship.

McGhee’s teammates on in the threee on three tournament were Toledo’s JT Sumate, BYU’s Rudi Williams, and Robert Morris’ Kahliel Spears. Four teams competed in the three on three championships. McGhee and the Sky-Walkers defeated Team Souljas in the first game, 21-10. McGhee had 6 points, including the game winning two-point shot, as he made 3 of 6 from behind the arc. Those counted for two points while baskets made inside the arc counted for one point.

In the championship match, McGhee and the Sky-Walkers fell to Team Hoopers, 20-17. Darius was cold in the final game, scoring just one point as he was 0 for 10 on two-point attempts.

It was a busy night Thursday for McGhee. He won the Applebees Team Shootout alongside Iona’s Kate Mager and Milwaukee’s Ahmad Rand. The event had the players take turns making a shot from the post, the free throw line, a three-pointer, and mid-court. McGhee’s team made one shot from each location in the quickest time to win the event.

Later during the night Thursday, McGhee was one of eight to participate in the State Farm 3-Point Championship. He made 13 three-pointers during his round which was not enough to be among the top four finishers in the first round to advance to the semifinals.

On Friday afternoon, McGhee participated in the Reese’s Division I College All-Star Game at NRG Stadium, an event that was aired on CBS Sports Network. McGhee, playing for the West Team, drilled his first two three-point attempts of the game, showcasing his electric ability to fill the basket from range.

The West, coached by Texas A&M’s Buzz Williams, won the game in overtime, 104-99. McGhee finished the game with 14 points as he made 4 of 12 field goals and 4 of 9 from three while making both of his free throw attempts. He also finished with 3 assists and 1 rebound.

McGhee, a 5’9″ guard from Roxboro, North Carolina, spent five seasons at Liberty. He was named a 2022-23 Associated Press All-American honorable mention. He currently ranks No. 2 in NCAA history with 528 career three-pointers made, led the country this season with a program-record 162 made threes. He is a finalist for both the 2022-23 Lute Olson National Player of the Year and Lou Henson National Player of the Year.

McGhee was named ASUN Player of the Year three straight seasons as he set the Liberty and ASUN all-time scoring record, finishing with 2,685 career points. He will now turn his attention to a professional career and trying for an opportunity to reach the NBA.
