According to multiple reports, a diving platform at Liberty’s natatorium collapsed last week. No injuries were reported.
The $20 million, 75,000 square-foot natatorium opened during the 2017-18 season. The diving platforms feature a full complement of diving apparatus, including 1-meter, 3-meter, 5-meter, 7.5 meter, and 10-meter platforms, plus 1-meter and 3-meter spring boards.
The 1-meter diving platform is what was damaged. This platform is not typically used in competition but used primarily as a training platform.
Liberty hosted the 2019 CCSA Conference Championship meet, winning the women’s title and then defending that title in 2020 in Knoxville.
