This is the second piece in a five-part series taking a look at Liberty football entering 2024 fall practices. Be sure to check back for the rest of this series throughout the week as we tackle a variety of Liberty football topics.
Obviously, there are a lot of question marks on this Liberty football team entering training camp for the 2024 season. We took a look at some of those question marks yesterday in our discussion of the team’s biggest storylines entering camp. Still, there are some concerns about just how good this team can be. Training camp is about beginning to find some of those answers and eliminate some of those concerns.
Liberty football can eliminate concerns if…
…a couple WRs emerge.
If, let’s say, Julian Gray and Elijah Canion quickly emerge as pieces Liberty can rely on at receiver this season, many concerns about the unit and the ceiling of the offense will be eliminated. With the playmaking abilities of Kaidon Salter and the running back room, as well as the depth of talent at tight end, the Flames’ offense is only 1-2 consistent receivers away from having an offense that should be every bit as good as last year’s squad.
…the offensive line quickly gels.
The biggest strength Liberty had last year was its offensive line. Three starters from that unit have departed and the Flames have brought in a few new faces to help pick up the slack. This group will certainly end up being one of the best in Conference USA, but how long will it take them to gel? If they can find that cohesion during training camp and in the first couple weeks of the season, then they should be able to continue to pave the way for one of the most dynamic offenses in the country.
…the newcomers at linebacker provide what the team needs.
Since moving to the FBS, Liberty has struggled year to year to find proven commodities at linebacker. Most seasons it has worked out and someone has emerged, just like last year with Tyren Dupree becoming a team leader and being named CUSA Defensive Player of the Year.
This year, the Flames have several new faces at linebacker that provide opportunities to give the team exactly what it needs. Will it be Teylor Jackson or Jahmar Brown? What about Aidan Vaughn or Ethan Crisp?
