This is the fifth and final piece in a series taking a look at Liberty football entering 2024 fall practices. Be sure to check back for the rest of this series throughout the week as we tackle a variety of Liberty football topics.
As Liberty begins training camp this week, there are several position battles that head coach Jamey Chadwell and his staff is keeping tabs on. Here are the top position battles to watch during camp.
Wide Receiver
With the loss of CJ Daniels and other receivers from last year’s squad, there are question marks at receiver. The Flames brought in several pieces to help offset the losses, but how will they fit into the offense and with the team?
Top names to watch here include Treon Sibley, Tyson Mobley, Elijah Canion, Reese Smith, Julian Gray, and Kylen Austin. Will anyone separate themselves as a go to target the team could desperately use this fall?
Corner
Amarian Williams is the one returning corner that is proven at the position for the Flames. Who else will emerge? Temple transfer Dominick Hill will certainly have an opportunity as will returners Dexter Ricks, Christian Bodnar, Joshua Wiggins, and Elijah Hopkins. Arizona/Old Dominion transfer Charles Yates could also factor in here.
Linebacker
There are a few names that are expected to play into the mix at linebacker, led by returners Joe Carter and Jerome Jolly. Incoming transfers Teylor Jackson and Jahmar Brown should also get a crack. There are tons of new names though. What about Aidan Vaughan or Ethan Crisp, or one of the true freshmen? Will any of them force their way onto the field this fall?
Offensive Line
There are a few knowns on the offensive line – Jordan White at center, Harrison Hayes at right guard, and Xavior Gray at right tackle. The left side of the line and the depth is still very much a work in progress. Jordan Hall and Jack Tucker will likely battle it out at left tackle while John Paul Flores has the inside track at left guard. How will this group mesh? Will anyone else push for playing time?
