Liberty moves to 2-1 in conference play with a 60-48 win over Presbyterian, as the Blue Hose fall to 1-2.
The game was tight throughout with neither team grabbing control of the game until the Flames went on a 15-1 run midway through the 2nd half to claim a 13 point lead with less than 7 minutes left in the game.
Liberty continues their impressive play on the defensive end of the floor, holding the Blue Hose 26 points below their season scoring average, their lowest output of the year. The Flames entered the game holding opponents to 60.7 points per game which ranked 7th in the nation in scoring defense.
Ryan Kemrite, who has been chasing the 1,000 career point total, finally got on the board with 2 free throws midway through the 2nd half. The 2nd free throw gave him his 1,000th career point. He now ranks 25th on Liberty’s all-time career scoring list.
Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz continued his solid play from Tuesday night, as he finished with 14 points on 6/10 shooting from the field. He added 5 rebounds and 4 assists with 0 turnovers.
After struggling the last couple of ball games and in the first half against PC, Lovell Cabbil scored 11 points on 5/9 shooting in the 2nd half. The junior guard also added 6 rebounds and 3 assists to go with his 13 points.
Caleb Homesley rounded out the double figure scorers with 12 points and also added 6 rebounds. Scottie James finished with 8 points and 12 rebounds, just 2 points away from his 3rd consecutive double-double.
The Flames travel to Winthrop for a showdown Tuesday night. The defending Big South champions are 1-2 in conference play, and Liberty hasn’t won in Rock Hill since 2004.
