Liberty jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first 90 seconds, and never looked back as they defeated Greensboro College 84-47. The win was the Flames’ 3rd consecutive as they improve to 4-5 on the season.
The Flames began a 12-0 run with just over 14 minutes remaining in the half, scoring 10 of the 12 points in the paint. Drew Smith highlighted the run with a one-handed dunk with 13:25 left in the opening period. Retic recorded six points during the span, capping the spurt with a jumper to put Liberty ahead, 24-8, at 11:16.
The game was never in doubt as Liberty led by as much as 45 and entered the halftime break with a 46-17 advantage. The Flames dominated the undersized and outmanned Greensboro Pride throughout the contest. Liberty shot 62% from the field, and held the Pride to 33% shooting. The Flames had 3 scorers reach double figures in Tomasz Gielo who led the way with 13 and Antwan Burrus and John Caleb Sanders who each chipped in 12 points. Joe Retic had a solid line on the evening with 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
The Flames dominated the box score. Liberty outscored the Pride in points in the point 46-14, outrebounded Greensboro 40-19, and forced 15 Pride turnovers.
Davon Marshall did not dress as he was held out for precautionary reasons as he suffered a minor injury during practice. Liberty returns to action next Saturday as they travel to face Austin Peay.
