Liberty has picked up a commitment from Johnathan Bennett, a 3 star quarterback from Summerville High School in Summerville, South Carolina. Bennett is a 6’1′, 205 pound prospect who has offers from Appalachian State, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, and Old Dominion.
Bennett was 128-of-209 passing for 1,727 yards and 16 touchdowns to go along with 769 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns in 2017. He becomes the 3rd commitment in the Class of 2019, joining 3 star wide receiver C.J. Yarbrough and kicker Jason Stricker.
He visited campus as part of Liberty’s Junior Day festivities on March 10th. Appalachian State and Old Dominion were also high on his list, and Bennett plans on attending the season opener on September 1st when the Flames host the Monarchs.
“It was amazing,” Bennett said of his visit to Lynchburg. “The facilities, the hospitality was amazing. I could definitely see myself going there.”
Bennett is the type of athlete that Liberty is more easily able to attract with the Flames now competing at the FBS level. “They already proved they can play with the best by beating Baylor, and they play Auburn this year. So, I know they can compete with the best. My long term goal is to win the first bowl game in school history.”
