Liberty and North Texas have agreed to a home and home football series, ASeaofRed.com has learned.
A copy of the contract was obtained earlier today from the University of North Texas via a public records request.
Liberty and North Texas will play a home-and-home series in 2018 and 2021. The Flames and the Mean Green will meet at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg on September 22, 2018 and then at Apogee Stadium in Denton, Texas on October 9, 2021.
According to a copy of the contract, the teams will not trade guarantees.
North Texas is a member of Conference USA where they went 3-5 in conference play and 5-8 overall in 2016. The Mean Green lost to Army in the Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl on December 27th.
The Flames and Mean Green were originally scheduled to play in a single game at North Texas in 2016, but that game was cancelled and Liberty replaced the game with SMU.
We continue to piece together Liberty’s future schedules, as we now know the Flames will play at Wake Forest on September 8th and at New Mexico on September 29th. The North Texas game in Lynchburg on September 22, 2018 is the first reported FBS home game for the Flames. Liberty is required to play 3 FBS home games in 2018 and at least 5 each season thereafter.
I foresee a number of Mid-American conference teams on the flames schedule in
the years ahead. That would only be fitting as the Flames first victory over
a 1-A team took place in 1988 against Eastern Michigan (Ypsilanti, Michigan).
