Liberty will host North Carolina A&T on Monday in the first round of the CIT at 6pm. The Aggies, hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina, are 20-14 on the season after falling to Hampton in the semifinals of the MEAC Tournament.
A&T finished tied for 4th place in the MEAC regular season with a 11-5 mark and just 1 game behind the 3-way tie for first. The Aggies are 1-3 against common opponents, losing to Presbyterian and Radford and splitting their season series with Howard. The Flames were 3-3 against the same opponents.
6’8″ junior Femi Olujobi leads a balanced scoring attack, as 5 players average at least 9.2 points per game. Olujobi, a 2nd-team all-MEAC selection, leads the way with 16.6 points and 7.5 rebounds. A pair of seniors, 6’7″ Devaris McGowens and 6’4″ Denzel Keyes were named to the 3rd-team all-conference, after averaging 10.7 and 9.4 points, respectively.
Jay Joyner, in his 2nd full season as head coach, was named the coach of the year in the MEAC after guiding the Aggies to one of the best turnarounds in all of college basketball. North Carolina A&T was 3-29 overall and 1-15 in conference play a season ago.
This will be the 2nd ever meeting between the two programs, as the first came in the 2013 NCAA Tournament when the Aggies edged the Flames, 73-72.
