The Flames released their 2018-19 men’s basketball conference schedule earlier this month, it will be the team’s first season as a member of the ASUN. As for the non-conference slate, a few games have begun to trickle out as other teams’ announce their schedules. Liberty’s full schedule is still waiting for the ink to dry on a couple of contracts, but it should be released soon.
The 3 non-conference games we know about are at Vanderbilt, against Alabama, and a home meeting with Georgia State. CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported earlier this year that the Flames will face Vanderbilt in Nashville. There will be some familiar names on the opposing sideline as former Liberty assistant Matt Olinger and former player Jeremy Anderson are both on the staff with the Commodores. Olinger is Vandy’s Director of Basketball Operations and Anderson is the team’s Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Alabama released their full schedule on Thursday, which included a December 18th meeting with Liberty in Huntsville, Alabama as part of the Rocket City Classic. The Crimson Tide advanced to the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament in 2018 behind head coach Avery Johnson and first round NBA draft pick Collin Sexton.
Liberty played Georgia State last season, knocking the Panthers off in Atlanta, in overtime, 77-74. The Flames are scheduled to host GSU on December 1st, according to a copy of the contract obtained by ASOR. The Panthers advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2018, their 2nd appearance in 4 years.
