VCU announced their 2015-16 non-conference schedule Friday evening. This revealed a game against Liberty on December 27, 2015 at the Siegel Center in Richmond, Virginia. The Richmond Times-Dispatch notes the Liberty-VCU game is part of a home and home series.
Both Liberty and VCU will be breaking in new coaches next season, as Shaka Smart left the Commonwealth to take over the Texas Longhorns. Replacing Smart is Will Wade, former head coach at Chattanooga. Liberty assistant Kyle Getter was part of Shaka Smart’s staff at VCU alongside Will Wade for 2 seasons, from 2009-11, helping guide the Rams to the Final Four in 2011. The Rams are expected to make the return trip to Lynchburg during the 2016-17 season.
We now know 2 of the Flames’ opponents on their 2015-16 non-conference schedule. Liberty faces Richmond in addition to the Rams. The game against the Spiders is part of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational.
