For fans hungry to watch their favorite pro football team, the preseason begins in earnest this weekend. Currently, there are three former Liberty players on NFL rosters, all fighting for a spot on the 53-man roster during the preseason.

QB MALIK WILLIS

Willis was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2021 draft by the Tennessee Titans. After serving as Ryan Tannehill’s backup for his rookie season, that second string spot was handed over to Will Levis in 2023. Now, entering 2024, Levis is the presumed starter while Willis is battling with NFL veteran Mason Rudolph for the backup spot.

Willis has played in 11 games during his first two seasons in the league. He has completed 35 of 66 passes (53.0%) for 350 yards and 3 interceptions. He has also rushed 32 times for 144 yards and 1 touchdown.

Next game: vs San Fransisco, Saturday, Aug. 10, 7:00 p.m.

WR DEMARIO DOUGLAS

Douglas was drafted in the 6th round of the 2023 NFL draft by the New England Patriots, and he immediately asserted himself as one of the top receivers for New England. Douglas, who will now wear #3 for the Patriots like he did at Liberty, will look to secure his starting spot for New England during the preseason.

Douglas had 49 receptions for 561 yards and rushed 8 times for 41 yards in his rookie season last year.

Next game: vs Carolina, Thursday, Aug. 8, 7:00 p.m., NFL Network

DE DURRELL JOHNSON

Johnson was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys following the 2023 draft. He will be looking to turn heads and grab the attention of his team executives during training camp and this preseason and perhaps crack the 53-man roster for the first time in his career.

Next game: @ Los Angeles Rams, Sunday, Aug. 11, 4:30 p.m., NFL Network
