Liberty picked up a commitment from Florida transfer linebacker Deuce Spurlock. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Spurlock spent the past two seasons at Florida after beginning his college career at Michigan. The 6’1″, 230 pound linebacker was ranked as a three-star recruit in the Class of 2022.
Originally from Madison, Alabama, Spurlock played in two games at Michigan in 2022 during his true freshman season, maintaining his redshirt before heading to Gainesville. He was named Freshman Defensive Player of the Game honors in his collegiate debut against Hawaii.
In 2023, he played in three games for Florida, all on special teams. He did not play in 2024.
Spurlock is the first linebacker to commit to the Flames out of the transfer portal. He should be able to compete for playing time in 2025 at Liberty. The Flames lose several pieces at the position from the 2024 team including Jerome Jolly, Teylor Jackson, and Jahmar Brown. Returning linebackers that got some playing time in 2024 include Joe Carter, Ethan Crisp, and Aidan Vaughan.
