Signing day 2017 is just over one week away. As we continue to inch towards February 1st, here’s a look at where the Flames currently stand with the Class of 2017:
Verbals
QB Mason Cunningham (JUCO)
The Flames picked up a commitment from Cunningham, a JUCO QB prospect originally from Shelbyville, Tennessee. Cunningham spent this past season at Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville, Mississippi. He was 160/280 passing for 1,810 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions at Northeast, while also rushing for 185 yards and 6 touchdowns. He has 3 years of eligibility and a redshirt year remaining. He has enrolled for the spring semester.
RB Frank Boyd
The Flames picked up their 2nd commitment of the weekend from Frank Boyd. Boyd is a 5’11”, 175 pound running back from Manchester High School in Richmond, Virginia. He helped lead Manchester to the 6A state quarterfinals for the first time in school history. Boyd finished the 2016 season with 1,615 yards and 20 touchdowns rushing in addition to his 175 receiving yards and 1 touchdown. Boyd had numerous Division II offers, and chose Liberty over other Division I offers including Delaware State, Howard, NC Central, and Norfolk State. He also visited NC Central prior to committing to Liberty.
OL Cooper McCaw
The 6’5″, 270 pound prospect from Grapevine, Texas chose the Flames over Arkansas State and Louisiana Lafayette. To all those who have asked, he is not related to Liberty’s new Athletic Director Ian McCaw. He was one of 6 prospects to visit Liberty this weekend.
OL/DL Elisha Mitchell
Mitchell is a 6’3″, 300 pound prospect from Virginia Beach where he attends Bayside High. He committed to Liberty over an offer from Norfolk State.
OL Tristan Schultz
Schultz is originally from Culver, Indiana where he attended Culver Community High School. After graduating from Culver, he spent this past season at Fork Union Military Academy. Schultz is a 6’5″, 280 pound prospect. He has enrolled at Liberty for the spring semester.
WR Khaleb Coleman
Coleman committed to Liberty over offers from Coastal Carolina, Florida A&M, and Youngstown State. He is a 6’3″, 185 pound prospect from Washington, DC., where he attends Woodrow Wilson High School. He had 956 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on 39 receptions this past season.
DL London Lewis
Lewis has offers from Appalachian State, Charleston Southern, Eastern Kentucky, Elon, Memphis, Mercer, Miami (OH), Middle Tennessee State, South Alabama, Tulane, South Florida, and Western Carolina. The 6’5″ prospect from Atlanta, Georgia’s St. Pius X Catholic High Shcool committed to Liberty while on an official visit this past weekend.
DL Jayod Sanders
Sanders attends Leon High School in Tallahassee, Florida where he played linebacker, defensive end, and tight end. The 6’3″, 215 pound prospect was originally committed to NC Central before decommiting and committing to the Flames. He will play defensive end at Liberty. Sanders was one of 6 prospects to visit this weekend.
LB Remington Green
Green was the first commitment in the class of 2017 when he committed back in June. He is a 6’1″, 210 pound prospect from King George, Virginia. Green also took his official visit this past weekend.
LB Amarii’ Jenkins
Jenkins just committed to Coach Gill and the Flames this month. He is a 6’2″, 195 pound prospect from Ocala, Florida. As a senior at West Port High School, he recorded 34 tackles, had 3 interceptions, caused 3 fumbles, and deflected 2 passes.
DB Aaron Pierre
Pierre is a 6’0″, 190 pound prospect from Cambridge-Christian School in Tampa, Florida. He also had offers from Bowling Green and Buffalo. He played both safety and running back in high school, but will begin his Liberty career as a defensive back.
DB Tyler Murray
Murray is a 6’2″, 180 pound defensive back from Jacksonville, Florida. He chose Liberty over offers from Troy, Elon, and Samford. Troy is still pursuing Murray, and visited him at school as recently as last week.
Pending Offers
RB Anthony Johnson, Jr
There hasn’t been much activity from Liberty in the past few weeks.
RB Anthony Smith
Smith reportedly has offers from Louisiana Monroe, New Mexico, UTSA, Utah State, Air Force, Army, Illinois State, Missouri State, Navy, SF Austin, and Tulane. No word on if Liberty is still in the mix.
WR Bralan Fuller
Fuller also has offers from Presbyterian and North Greenville. He is a 5’11”, 152 pound prospect from Easley, South Carolina.
WR Justin Gibbs
Gibbs has several offers from both FBS and FCS schools and no word of a Liberty visit prior to signing day. He had an in-home visit with Georgia State on Monday.
WR Tyshun Odom
Everything has been quiet on the Odom front for a while. He had reported offers from Old Dominion, Gardner-Webb, NC Central, and Tusculum.
WR Fidel Ogbeifun
Ogbeifun is a 6’3″, 215 pound prospect from Douglasville, Georgia.
TE Jerome Jackson
Jackson is a new name that popped up on the radar over the weekend. He is expected to visit Liberty this weekend. Jackson is a 6’5″, 217 pound prospect from Fort Worth, Texas. As a senior for Timber Creek High School, he had 27 receptions for 477 receiving and 3 touchdowns.
TE Kris Leach
Leach visited Ohio last weekend, and he visited Western Kentucky this past weekend. Leach attends Liberty High School in Bealeton, Virginia.
TE Kenneth Nelson
Nelson tells us he has already taken an official visit to Liberty. He also has offers from Air Force, Jackson State, Lamar, Memphis, Missouri State, and SF Austin. He says he plans on taking other visits prior to signing day, but no word as of yet as to where those visits may be. He is a 6’2″, 215 pound prospect from Addison, Texas.
TE Malik Thirdgill
Thirdgill also has offers from Cornell, Portland State, and Weber State. The 6’4″, 220 pound prospect from Portland, Oregon took his official visit to Liberty this past weekend. He’s currently the only one of the 6 prospects that visited over the weekend that isn’t committed. We’ll keep close tabs on Thirdgill over the next week as we close in on signing day.
OL Gray Davis
Davis has several offers and no word of a visit to Liberty on his horizon.
DL James Anderson
No recent news from Anderson on his recruitment.
DL Brock Houston
No recent news from Houston on his recruitment.
DL R’Quan LeBlanc
No recent news from LeBlanc on his recruitment.
DL Kenneth Orji
Orji took an official visit to Air Force a couple weeks ago. No word of a pending visit to Liberty.
DL Rodshon Williams
No recent news from Williams on his recruitment.
LB T.D. Blackmon
No recent news from Blackmon on his recruitment.
LB Patrick Johnson
Johnson was recently visited by Florida International coaches, and he took an official visit to Tulane over the weekend. He has been offered by Florida Atlantic this weekend as well.
LB Tah’Shim Knight

DB Keith Best
Liberty just offered Best last week. He is scheduled to visit the Flames this weekend, the first official visit he has taken. He also has reported offers from Kentucky, Miami (OH), Southern Miss, and Tulane. Best is a 6’1″, 180 pound prospect from Tucker, Georgia. He is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in early September, causing him to miss much of his senior season.

ATH Travell Harris
Harris visited Arizona last week and Washington State this past weekend. It doesn’t sound like Liberty is on his radar anymore.

No recent news from Rogers-Anderson on his recruitment who decommitted from East Carolina in November.
ATH Chauncy Smart

ATH D.J. Stubbs
We haven’t been able to confirm it, but all signs point to Stubbs as committing to Liberty just before the Christmas holiday. He’s a 5’9″, 160 pound prospect from Jacksonville, Florida. He was originally committed to Florida International, but he decommitted in mid-December. He has numerous offers including Appalachian State, Charleston Southern, Elon, Furman, Old Dominion, Richmond, Samford, UT Martin, and Western Kentucky. He would play wide receiver with the Flames.

DB Grant Stuard
Stuard has cut his list of suitors to Houston, SMU, Tulsa, and Yale. He visited Liberty last month, but the Flames didn’t make the cut. Houston just offered the local product last week, and, after taking a visit to Houston, he committed to his local team on Sunday.
